Me
Bio
I am a fiber artist, yoga teacher, painter, dancer, aerialist, jeweler, movement facilitator, meditation guide, and astrologer from occupied Tohono O’Odam land presently known as Tucson, Arizona. My aesthetic is inseparable from that of the American southwest and I’m so grateful to have been exposed to a beautiful abundance of Native America, mostly Navajo, art and jewelry. I’m inspired by the movement of water, blending colors of sunsets and the purple mountains of my childhood. Sometimes I incorporate precious and semi-precious stones in my art and jewelry, or aspects of the desert like saguaro or cholla spine. My paintings most often feature themes of geometry or fluidity using acrylic pour painting or alcohol ink. I enjoy the practice of surrendering to the natural movements of water that these arts require, using only the elements of heat and air to move paint.
My mission is to support and honor life by helping to cultivate harmony within the physical body, within human relationships, within the physical environment and within the human-cosmos relationship. Therefore, my materials are simple: I use cotton rope, plant dyes, and driftwood or other wood in my fiber art. I don’t use synthetic dyes, which have wreaked havoc on our planet’s water systems globally due to the rise in fast fashion. My processes are slow; dying is a three day process.
I received my Bachelor’s of Science with a major in Physics from Yale in 2016. My thesis was in cosmology, but I’m interested in a broad range of subjects that can point towards ultimate truth and understanding. I’ve studied chemistry, biology, ecology (spending a semester in Australia studying rainforest ecology, with the privileged experience to learn about their ecosystem from an aboriginal perspective as well), spiritual ecology, Native American religious histories, Buddhism (with the privilege of spending a summer studying at a Buddhist temple in Nepal), computer science, linguistics, Geology, and Magic. Most recently I’ve apprenticed as a farmer, taught human health and sexuality curricula to youth, and finished a 300 hour yoga teacher training certification in India. I love triangles and trigonometry and the way that math maps onto nature, so I often incorporate geometry into my art. I'm mindful of the ratios present in my pieces and their symbolic significance as well.
I’ve been featured in art exhibits around Pennsylvania and New Jersey. I'm currently showing at Allen Lane Art Center and prior to that I was featured in the juried fine art exhibition of the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. I’m also involved in a dance and film collaboration for the 20/92 Video Festival at Icebox Gallery that explores the felt experience of totality during a solar eclipse where I will be dancing, performing lyra, and wearing some of my macrame clothing. My creative efforts lately have mostly been directed towards sequencing yoga classes, renovating a 2003 school bus into a tiny home, creating a macrame fashion line, and giving astrology consultations.
